My parents immigrated to Israel from the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
I was born in Israel. I have an Israeli name, grew up with Israeli friends,
and yet, for years, I felt like an immigrant.
The project explores my personal experience of immigration,
the concept of identity, and my attempt to find myself
within the complexity of combining two cultures.
I made great efforts to distance myself from my Russian roots.
I struggled to fit in and to be as Israeli as possible.
After a long process, I decided to come home and try to embrace
and take pride in my roots.
The book is built around a dialogue with the songs of Alex Reef,
alongside texts written by my mother and me.
